Marshall Teague Sumar Special Throwback

NASCAR Cup Series Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 by Nick SmallNick Small

About this paint

A little throwback tribute car project I've been working on over the last couple of days to honour the "Sumar Special Streamliner" car Marshall Teague test-drove at Daytona in 1951. A little historic background: On 9 February 1951, the Sumar Special, an Indycar driven by Marshall Teague (AKA "The King of the Beach" for his elite driving skill at the Daytona Beach road course), established a record-setting 171.821 mph (276.5 km/h) lap time at Daytona Speedway. Two days later, on 11 February, in an attempt to break his own record, Teague lost control of the car in turn two, killing him instantly. He died 11 days shy of his 38th birthday. Four years later, in 1955, Jimmy Daywalt qualified a new version of the car for the Indianapolis 500th that year, and finished 9th. I tried to keep it relatively simple but I felt the need to throw in a chevy logo in the corner just to take up some of the empty space. The original Sumar Special used a Kurtis Kraft Suspension and Offenhauser Engine and I didn't think the Offy logo would look right. Thanks for reading and I hope if nothing else you learned a bit more about Daytona/Indycar lore! *Due to copyright laws I will not be including an image of the original car, but you can easily see it for yourself if you google image search "Sumar Special Streamliner"*

I make skins for cars I like based on things I like. Usually that either involves teams from other sports, cute anime girls, or putting Indycar liveries on stock cars. Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions and I will implement them as best I can.
