About this paint

R8 was first Driven by Graham Hill in the 1969 Tasman Series as a 49T/B. It was not raced at Montjuïc. It was raced by Attwood at Monaco, and then again by Hill at the British GP. After this it was sold to Ecurie Bonnier. Jo Bonnier raced the car at the German GP and it was entered in a couple more races but did not compete. In 1970 it was uprated to 49C spec and sold to Scuderia Scribante. It was moved to South Africa, where it was entered in the South African F1 Series; consisting of 11 races, Charlton retired from 2 came second in another and won the rest taking David Charlton to the first of several Championships. For 1971 Charlton raced with the #1. I am not sure when it acquired its new livery but the picture of Charlton has written along the bottom in Afrikaans "With this car, Charlton became South African champion in 1970". I have pictures of the previous repaint with #7 but only #1 for this livery. Charlton raced this car for the first half of the 1971 series, before moving to Lotus 72D R3, again winning the championship. Piet de Klerk took over R8 and raced it untill July 1972. For its final 2 races in August 1972 it was raced by Mayer Botha. de Klerk and Botha both raced the car with #4. I can't find any pictures or info about which livery the cars raced under, so will have to finish this chapter with the Charlton car. To find out what happened next to R8; watch this space. A few words about this paint; I have put Charlton's number in place even though this car is not for custom numbers. The side numbers are covered by the roundels. The front number is not covered up but I feel it fills a gap. It's a pity the roundels cover up the livery on the nose, I have included a screen shot from Trading Paints, along with a couple of pictures of the actual car to show how it would look if iRacing did not put the roundels there. I had tried to make custom number paints for the 49 but all that happens is it displays blank roundels. As with my other Loti, this paint comes with a custom spec map; the paintwork has a high gloss with the decals and other parts having a less polished finish. I have used the alpha channel to create the extra vents; I had to move them back a bit and make changes to the size and position of some of the decals and livery to fit them around the car_mandatory number roundels, none of which were used on this car. Updated spec-map.
