About this Custom Number paint

Jeff Gordon - 1998 - 75 Years: The Champions Jeff Gordon’s rise to prominence in the mid-1990s may have caught his competitors off guard. By 1998, they were going to have to work harder than ever to reel in the young phenom. Mark Martin rose to the challenge in 1998, having statistically one of the greatest seasons in NASCAR history. Unfortunately for Martin, Gordon’s season was even better. Gordon won a modern era record-tying 13 times on the season, with 26 top fives and only two DNFs. Gordon’s unbelievable season draw scrutiny from competitors, especially Martin’s team owner Jack Roush. Roush claimed to have received an anonymous package containing a mystery liquid alleged to be tire softener. When Gordon found a sudden surge in speed after a two-tire pit stop in New Hampshire, enough to pass Martin for the win late in the going, Roush took his tire-soaking conspiracy public. NASCAR and Goodyear examined tires for much of the rest of the season, but the results didn’t change. Gordon cruised to championship number three as Martin was a bridesmaid again, with his third runner-up points finish. This paint represents the Hendrick Motorsports number 24 Dupont car’s primary paint scheme as it appeared in many races during the 1998 season. The 75 Years project is a series of paints dedicated to the history of NASCAR racing. Follow me for updates: twitter.com/iam27paul
