About this Custom Number paint

Richard Petty - 1984 Firecracker 400 - 75 Years: The Moments The NASCAR world buzzed with excitement by the midway point of the 1984 season. King Richard Petty, divorced from Petty Enterprises and now with the new Mike Curb 43 Pontiac team, sat on the verge of a monumental 200 wins. President Ronald Reagan announced he would attend the midseason classic, the Firecracker 400. All eyes turned to Daytona on the Fourth of July. Petty qualified 6th behind polesitter and reigning Daytona 500 champion Cale Yarborough, but quickly made his move to the front. Petty and Yarborough dominated the day, leading all but 28 laps between them. Petty found himself leading in the closing laps with Yarborough on his tail, ready to set up the slingshot at the finish. As the leaders hit the line with three laps remaining, Doug Heveron spun and turned over in turn 1 ahead of them. The caution lights illuminated as the pair flashed past the accident scene, racing to the yellow flag would end it. Yarborough tried his slingshot and momentarily took the lead in the north turn. Petty held the gas and turned back to the low side on the exit, and the two drag raced to the line. Petty held off Yarborough by inches, clinching his 200th and final Winston Cup win in thrilling fashion. This paint represents the number 43 STP Pontiac as it appeared that day. The 75 Years project is a series of paints dedicated to the history of NASCAR racing. Follow me for updates: twitter.com/iam27paul
