About this Custom Number paint

Sumner Mcknight #83 Calder Park Thunderdome Feb 1988. This car was a Baldwin chassis which John Nissen mounted the body on and built the car finishing it off with a Pro Power engine built by Lloyd McCleary who was the owner of Pro Power . Sumner and John and John's wife Dawn Nissen took a crew and car to Australia with no sponsor however the team secured support from John Deere Australia before the race which led to a very good looking race car . Sumner qualified in 10th position on the grid and after running a very clean and professional race finished in 5th in the Goodyear 500 in Februrary 1988. Sumners usual hunting grounds were Winston West series events at tracks like Mesa Marin and Riverside Raceway which sadly went the way of so many tracks . At All American Speedway which hosted five series events between 1977 and 1982 when it was a quarter mile track Sumner started the furthest back and won coming from 8th on the grid in 1977 for the win . His oval experience started on speedway bikes racing solo’s in the USA and was the first of the Americans to race in the British League racing for the Swindon Robins. Sumner was inducted into the Hot Shoe hall of fame in 2020 . Thank you to Sumner Mcknight and also Dawn Nissen for their help and enthusiasm in getting this car done . Sumner said Calder felt like a mix of Charlotte and Rockingham #scanthethunderdome
