About this Custom Number paint

Ron Esau was a West Coast driver that flew to Australia as Jim Robinson's mechanic and he took his helmet and race suit in case he needed to set the car up . Jim had a bad accident at Phoenix International raceway and was in a coma and he had previously said if anyone was to drive his car it should be Ron as he held great respect for him as a driver. In Jim's Oldsmobile Ron managed to secure some local sponsorship from Australian car audio company Eurovox and qualified 5th for the race - Neil Bonnet was on pole. Ron ran well up the front and passed some of his heroes early on and was looking very strong and a real contender until a broken rocker took any real chance away from the team . Rather than retire they decided to keep running without pace and completed enough laps ( 160 ) to get a good share of prize money all of which he donated to Jim Robinsons hospital care fund back in the US . Ron wont the first Southwest NASCAR series in 1986 and was a very well respected driver . He made several more trips to race at the Calder Park Thunderdome including a third place behind Ken Schrader and Terry Labonte in December 1990 . Ron passed away January 24th 2022.
