About this Custom Number paint

Ricky Rudd - 1998 NAPA Autocare 500 - 75 Years: The Moments Ricky Rudd’s amazing streak of winning at least one race every year since 1983 looked to be in Jeopardy as the 1998 season neared its conclusion. Rudd’s self-owned team struggled throughout the season, posting just three top tens through the first 26 races. The Virginia driver found his groove once the tour entered his home state for the September Martinsville race. Rudd qualified second as scorching heat and humidity descended on the track for raceday. The Tide ride quickly proved to be the fastest on the day, but after the driver’s helmet air conditioning failed moments after the green flag dropped, Rudd’s endurance was put to the test. Hut Stricklin was tapped for relief duty, but Rudd refused to turn over the wheel of such a fast car and his best chance to keep the streak alive. Rudd took the lead for good on lap 405 and carried on to a heroic victory, but had to be pulled from the car in victory lane. Once there, he dropped flat on his back, requiring medical attention from track medical staff and ESPN’s Dr. Jerry Punch, who had entered the scene to interview the winner. Rudd, suffering tremendous pain from burns and blisters, famously gave that interview on the ground while receiving oxygen. This paint represents the number 10 Tide Ford as it appeared at Martinsville on that day. The 75 Years project is a series of paints dedicated to the history of NASCAR racing.
