About this Custom Number paint

Davey Allison - 1992 Hooters 500 - 75 Years: The Moments Davey Allison’s 1992 season is a story of heroism and heartbreak. Allison and the number 28 Ford racked up three wins in the first nine races, including the Daytona 500, but a devastating crash after taking the checkered flag in The Winston put the points leader in the hospital. Allison bounced back, winning from pole at Michigan, before a second horrific crash, this time at Pocono, put him back in the hospital. Though he again didn’t miss a race, the wrecks took their toll, and his points lead over Bill Elliott disappeared by late summer. It was at that moment that tragedy struck the Allison family, as Davey’s brother Clifford, a rising star in the Busch Series, lost his life in a crash at Michigan in late August. Through it all, Allison’s resolve never wavered, as he clawed points back from Elliott down the stretch. After winning the penultimate round in Phoenix, Allison was back on top of the standings entering the finale at Atlanta. Allison faced hardship throughout the race, taking rear quarter panel damage in a lap 2 melee, then running over a roll of duct tape to punch a hole in the valence. The Robert Yates Racing team never gave up, and despite it all, still had Allison in championship position. But on lap 253, Allison’s championship dream came to an end as he was unable to avoid an out of control Ernie Irvan off turn four. The car was battered beyond repair and Allison’s heroic 1992 season ended with no championship trophy to show for it. This paint represents the Texaco-Havoline Ford as it appeared that day. The 75 Years project is a series of paints dedicated to the history of NASCAR racing. Follow me for updates: twitter.com/iam27paul
